Zoetic Walls Tour

On May 2 at 7 pm, join us for a stroll through the Waterloo Arts District and a tour of the murals led by Zoetic Walls’ organizers and participating mural artists. The tour will start at Waterloo Arts with a brief discussion of public art and then move through the neighborhood for a look at each mural, returning to Waterloo Arts for light refreshments and live music.  The discussion will be informal and we welcome questions about the artists, murals, the impact of street art projects in other cities and upcoming plans for Zoetic Walls Cleveland.

In its inaugural year, Zoetic Walls Cleveland, adorned the Waterloo Arts District with 20 new murals painted by international, national and local artists. The project was managed by Waterloo Arts in partnership with Nick Marzullo and Seth Mooney of Pawn Works (Chicago). Pawn Works has facilitated numerous public art projects in Chicago and other cities across the United States. http://instagram.com/pawn_works

2013 Zoetic Walls artists include: Gaia, Ever, LNY, Hygienic Dress League, Rae, Bob Peck, Steve Ehret, Gabriel Spector, JBecause, Doodles, and Lynnea Holland-Weiss.

…plus, the first mural of Zoetic Walls 2014 will be in Ohio City! Loren Naji generously offered the newly uncovered wall of his studio on W. 25th to initiate another season of Zoetic Wall mural making. The leveling of a building next door to Loren’s Studio exposed a lovely long brick wall and we have invited artist Erik Burke (OverUnder), from Reno, Nevada, to paint a mural on it during the first week in May. Stop by and give Erik a warm welcome to Cleveland. You can, also, check out the work in progress on May 2, after the Mural Tour in Collinwood. Hop across town to Loren Naji’s Studio and Gallery for the opening, “Undercurrent”, 6pm – Midnight, featuring works by Ron Copeland and Zoetic Walls artists, Steve Ehret and Bob Peck.

Erik Burke lives in Reno, NV and has created art in public spaces throughout the world. Burke focuses primarily on the street applying his work through wheat paste or house paint under the name OverUnder (OU35). His latest work can be seen in Mexico City, Santa Rosa, CA for the youth arts program Start, Chicago for Pawn Works ‘Art in Public Places’ program, Atlanta, GA and Albany, NY for the ‘Living Walls Conference’, Baltimore for Open Walls Baltimore, and the Navajo Nation for the Painted Desert Project.

The Zoetic Walls Mural Tour is funded by a Collinwood Rising Vibrancy Grant made possible by Northeast Shores and the Kresge Foundation.

Note: The Waterloo Arts and Entertainment District is going through a streetscape renovation that will give us a spiffy new look, so please pardon our construction and take care as you navigate the street. There are many free public parking lots and free on street parking to make your visit to the Waterloo Arts District easier.
