Artist Talk
Wednesday, February 11, 7pm
Unfolding Narrative showcases several artists of the AAQDG in order to display the depth and variety achievable in quilting through the use of multiple fiber techniques. The cornerstone of the works produced by AAQDG artists is to preserve the African American experience by producing rich, visual narratives told in both personal and historical contexts. Many African American contributions have been suppressed from history and the women of the AAQDG seek to revive such stories through the use of fiber arts. Story quilts, portraiture, landscapes and traditional quilting styles are all represented in the work of the AAQDG.
The juxtaposition of historical and contemporary narratives provides a bridge for cross-generational storytelling, which acts as an additional means of preserving a complex history. On Wednesday, February 11 at 7pm, we invite you to join us at the Waterloo Arts Gallery for storytelling and a conversation with the artists.
The artists and Guild were recently featured in Shaker Life Magazine. Read the full article here
