Words of Love
S. LeDonne
Public Reception: June 2nd, 2023, 6-9PM, artist walk-thru at 7PM
S LeDonne creates work that highlights the novelty and profoundness of everyday life. Their recent bodies of work examine masculinity, reliance on technology, humankind’s relationship with the natural world, apocalyptic poetry, and mental wellness. Central to LeDonne’s work is providing the viewer with a point of relatability through warmth or humor. Their work advocates for the usefulness of reflection and self-expression as self-care tools.
S. LeDonne’s ongoing series Words of Love aims to acknowledge Love in its ordinary and complex manifestations via writings in ink. S. LeDonne is interested not just in the concept of Love, but in acts and actions that profoundly illustrate Love’s power. “I need the bright optimism of Love. I need the somber Love that comes with Loss. I need its possibility and I need all of that hopefulness, and the intentionality it brings to the table. While we are on earth, there is so much love to experience and it isn’t hokey to recognize the presence of a force that may actually be a true spirituality, divine in nature, or even just connected to chemicals in our brains that validate our experience.”
S. LeDonne’s Words of Love opens to view on June 2nd at Waterloo Arts Gallery (15605 Waterloo Rd). A public reception will also take place during First Fridays Walk All Over Waterloo on Friday, June 2nd from 6-9pm with the opening of Interior Landscapes in the main gallery. These exhibitions will be open to visit through July 22nd during regular gallery hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12pm-4pm, and by appointment on weekdays.
