Martinez E-B in “B Side”

October 5 – November 16

Opening Reception: Friday, October 5, 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Chicago-based artist Martinez E-B returns to his hometown with a solo show at Waterloo Arts. “B Side,” is a multi-media exhibition of video, sound, painting, drawing, and found and altered objects featuring the alienated, unapologetic and self-aware persona of Soul Sway.
“Soul was first developed in 2008 as a place where I could store my suppressed amoral, areligious, and life questioning appetite. Free from fear of disappointment from community and family, Soul questions the structures, powers and frameworks which surround my life.”  Martinez E-B
Soul’s first public appearance was in 2014 in Soul Sway, a sound piece created at Columbia College Chicago using the voice of E-B. This work was followed by, Bar: Solitude in a Hallowed Chasm, a video piece screened in Chicago, IL. In this work, the artist’s voice was again utilized but Soul was also given a visual depiction as a space man existing in a vacant blackness. “B Side” will be the first full exhibition of Soul.
