George Pope, flute
Eric Charnofsky, piano
George Pope is the Emeritus Professor of Flute at The University of Akron and Instructor of Flute at The Baldwin Wallace Conservatory. Principal Flute of the Akron Symphony from 1978-2002, Mr. Pope has also performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Blossom Festival Orchestra, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and at the Spoleto Festival. A founding member of the Solaris Wind Quintet and the Chamber Music Society of Ohio, he also performs with the Swannanoa Chamber Players in Asheville, NC. Mr. Pope was named “Arts Educator of 2009” by the Akron Area Arts Alliance. A graduate of the University of Tulsa and Northwestern University, he has recorded for Opus One Records, Capstone Records, with the Akron Symphony on Telarc International, and with the Blossom Festival Band.
Eric Charnofsky is active as a collaborative pianist, composer, classroom music teacher, and lecturer. Originally from Los Angeles, he currently teaches 20th Century Music History and Keyboard Ensemble at Case Western Reserve University, and has also taught courses at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Mr. Charnofsky has performed as a collaborative pianist throughout North America, and has performed as an orchestral pianist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others. A graduate of The Juilliard School where he majored in piano accompanying, Mr. Charnofsky also holds degrees in solo piano performance and composition. He has worked as a pre-concert lecturer, an Associate Faculty member at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, a convention accompanist for the National Flute Association, and he appears on recordings on the Albany and Capstone labels. His radio program, “Not Your Grandmother’s Classical Music,” airs Monday afternoons on WRUW-FM.
