Joe Parker Original Compositions Sunday 11/13/16 4pm

SUNDAY, NOV 13 4PM

We had planned a November concert of Istvan Medgyesi on sitar and Joe Parker on guitar playing music influenced by Hindustani traditions – but sitars are temperamental creatures, and this one has decamped to India to be repaired – we hope to reschedule it next year.
But Joe Parker is a musician with resources, and on Sunday he’ll play an atmospheric performance piece (working Title: A Cleveland Renaissance) that he and his partner in Churchill Score and Sound, Matthew James Murphy, composed originally for the Medwish benefit at the Rock Hall; it runs a little more than an hour and will incorporate components of world music, rhythms and chants – also an intermission.

As with all M4M concerts, the music will begin at 4 pm and the Callaloo Café will be ready with light refreshments. A very distinguished, very Cleveland show will be hanging in the gallery – Derf Backderf’s The Baron of Prospect Ave. Comix Project. Most Clevelanders know that Derf is an award-winning, international bestselling author and rock star comix creator. As a Creative Workforce Fellow, he has been working on a new project, THE BARON OF PROSPECT AVE. , which continues the story of his first graphic novel, PUNK ROCK AND TRAILER PARKS, which captured the 80’s punk rock scene of Akron, OH.

Joe Parker is a Cleveland-based guitarist and composer whose compositions with Murphy have been heard on including MGM/Lakeshore, ABC, NBC, PBS, MTV,VH-1, TLC, E Entertainment, and NPR. Joe also plays on national and international Broadway tours (including the first ever performance of a Broadway musical in Mongolia), and all over Cleveland.

These concerts are presented with the support of Local 4 Music Fund, the Music Performance Trust Fund, the Friends of M4M Committee, Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, and Ohio Arts Council.
