2025 DayGlo Show: March 7-30
NOTE: Applications now closed
Waterloo Arts will select 30-40 artists to create new work for the annual DayGlo show, which runs from March 7 – March 30, 2025. Exhibiting artists will receive a supply of DayGlo paint, courtesy of the DayGlo Color Corp; the exhibit will be displayed in black light at Waterloo Arts.
The theme of the 2025 DayGlo show, Double Feature, Picture Glo, honors DayGlo’s origin story: In 1934, Joe and Bob Switzer established the Fluor-S-Art Co. and the next year they came to Cleveland with San Francisco artist Delmar Gray to demonstrate the power of fluorescent paint to Continental Lithograph, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. The brothers and Gray created a display of movie posters that were exhibited in the lobby of the enormous Hippodrome movie theater and illuminated with black light. Movie goers were delighted and Warner Bros. was sold on fluorescent advertising. Fluor-S-Art Co. moved to Cleveland and eventually merged with Continental Lithograph which later became DayGlo Color Corp.
Artists interested in exhibiting a work as a part of Double Feature, Picture Glo are invited to apply by December 20, 2024. Previous fluorescent artwork is not required in the application; however, the more information provided about the work, the better. For artists whose practices focus on media outside of painting, please indicate a plan for use of the DayGlo paint in your piece for this show.
Artists will be notified by December 27, 2024 of their acceptance into the show. Although we would love to accept all artists, space is limited; acceptance into past DayGlo exhibits and application submission does not guarantee acceptance into the show.
