Activities and Drop-In Artist Workshops: March 15-30, 2025

In addition to this year’s stunning Dayglo exhibit, Double Feature, Picture Glo, we’re also offering a range of activities and opportunities to work with Dayglo paint.

Throughout the month, come visit the Waterloo Arts Cafe to contribute to a series of community murals. You’re also welcome to really get into the movie theme by creating your own custom, glow-in-the-dark popcorn box!

Looking for something more in-depth? We’re also offering a series of drop-in workshops with artists exhibiting in the show this year. This is a chance to learn more about the process behind some of the work in the show and to take your own piece home with you. Feel free to stay for a bit or plan a whole afternoon!

Artist Workshop Schedule:

March 15th, 12-4pm: Screen Printing with Sarah Royer
Sarah has developed her own process of painting her own backgrounds using Dayglo paint, then screen printing a custom-made image over top. In this workshop, visitors will have the chance to paint their own background and screen print a prepared image on top.

March 16th, 12-4pm: Creating Posters from Natural Life with Solita Jones
Solita will be assisting visitors in creating vintage-style movie posters to advertise plants, flowers, and any other natural material that comes to mind. This workshop relates very heavily to the artist’s nature-inspired art practice, and is perfect for the incoming spring weather!

March 23rd, 12-4pm: Air Dry Clay – Small Sculptures with Linda Zolten Wood
Sculpture artists, this is for you. Linda will be guiding visitors throughout the process of creating and painting their own air-dry clay characters. Feel free to fill your afternoon with the possibilities!

March 30th, 12-4pm: Exploring Contrast with Nicholas Deveney
An experienced stencil artist, Nicholas will guide visitors through the process of designing their own stencil. By designing the individual layers of their piece, this workshop invites anyone looking for a a little challenge.

While these free artist workshops are drop-in throughout the month, we can’t guarantee how long or short the activity will take. Feel free to come and chat with the artists however long you’d like!

Double Feature, Picture Glo will be on view in the Waterloo Arts gallery from 12-4 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays with extended gallery hours on Sundays from March 7th through the 30th. Please email info@waterlooarts.org or call 216.692.9500 with any questions about the exhibit.
