Join us for February’s Walk All Over Waterloo on Friday, February 6th from 5-8pm! If you haven’t seen our current exhibitions, here’s the perfect chance. We’ll be offering Mini-Tours of the Dana Lynn Harper Exhibition “Rituals of Return” on every half hour!
In Rituals of Return, Ohio-based artist Dana Lynn Harper explores the windows and barriers that separate her from her family history. Combining the distinctive textures of paper clay, velvet, rice, pearls, dried flowers, and masses of glass beads, she creates a series of veiled portraits. Centered on the transformative experience of immigration, Harper aims not only to honor her family’s stories but to deepen a cultural connection to her ancestors.
Also on view in the Waterloo Arts Cafe is Brian Fencl: Strange Vases. Fencl’s “Strange Vases” series is a tribute to his grandmother who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. Strange Vases is an exhibition of small oil paintings that feature her curious arrangements – flowers stuck in a container of Lysol wipes, or a bouquet placed into a half-filled bear-shaped container of honey.
Also – Collinwood Better Streets will be having a Postcard Writing Party in the Cafe. Collinwood Better Streets is asking Cleveland City Council to invest in safer streets and we need your help! Stop in to help them work on writing postcards to let the city know what the community needs. Better streets!
