Cleveland’s favorite fluorescent art exhibit is returning to Waterloo Arts in March 2025!
Thanks to the sponsorship of the DayGlo Color Corporation headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, 55 participating local artists have received DayGlo paint to create a piece inspired by this year’s theme, Double Feature, Picture Glo. All works will be exhibited in the Waterloo Arts Gallery in a black-lit display that celebrates the origins of the DayGlo Color Corporation.
During the Walk-All-Over-Waterloo on Friday, March 7th, our free, fun, family-friendly opening reception will run from 6-9 p.m. to celebrate with fluorescent crafts, mural-painting, music, light refreshments, and glowing drinks for purchase at our bar.
In 1934, Joe and Bob Switzer established the Fluor-S-Art Co. and the next year they came to Cleveland with San Francisco artist Delmar Gray to demonstrate the power of fluorescent paint to Continental Lithograph, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. The brothers and Gray created a display of movie posters that were exhibited in the lobby of the enormous Hippodrome movie theater and illuminated with black light. Movie goers were delighted and Warner Bros. was sold on fluorescent advertising. Fluor-S-Art Co. moved to Cleveland and eventually merged with Continental Lithograph which later became DayGlo Color Corp.
Double Feature, Picture Glo will be on view in the Waterloo Arts gallery from 12-4 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays with extended gallery hours on Sundays from March 7th through the 30th. Please email info@waterlooarts.org or call 216.692.9500 with any questions about the exhibit.
