Judy Giera, “And it can give some joy”; April 7-May 20 in main gallery

And it can give some joy

Judy Giera

Public reception: April 7th, 2023, 6-9PM, artist walk-thru at 8PM

Northeast Ohio native Judy Giera is a multidisciplinary artist who makes mixed media works that explore the psychological stakes and cultural realities of surviving as a transgender woman in the present moment. Giera’s show And it can give some joy challenges the violently hostile political climate that attempts to govern transgender women out of public spaces and away from accessible healthcare by creating her signature sculptural paintings (or “paint(h)ings”) that embody a sense of transgender joy, and exist in spite of hatred and bigotry.

Judy Giera’s And it can give some joy opens to view on April 7th at Waterloo Arts Gallery (15605 Waterloo Rd). A public reception will also take place during First Fridays Walk All Over Waterloo on Friday, April 7th from 6-9pm with the opening of Elena Masrour’s Bingo, I’m the King Now in the Waterloo Arts Café. This exhibition will be open to visit through May 20th during regular gallery hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12pm-4pm, and by appointment on weekdays. To request an appointment, email gallery@waterlooarts.org or call 216.692.9500.
