Arts Collinwood Gallery is pleased to present, artist/writer Dan Tranberg’s first solo exhibition in eight years

Arts Collinwood Gallery continues its 2010 season with an exhibition of new work by artist/writer, Dan Tranberg. This new body of work represents Tranberg’s concentration on the idea of encouraging intimate viewing of abstract forms and spaces as a means of reinvigorating a connection to visual phenomena. Rather than relying on grand gestures, Tranberg creates subtle visual enigmas within small, reductive compositions that often hover between graphical and three-dimensional representations of space. While this new work could be perceived a response to our quick-paced era of easy and disposable digital images, the artist states,  “I am interested in creating works that encourage a deeper, slower, and more careful consideration of visual perception and our relationship to the visible world.”

Born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Chicago, Dan Tranberg is an award-winning artist, writer, and critic currently based in Cleveland, Ohio. He has published over 750 articles on visual art and has exhibited his own work in more than 25 exhibitions. His writing has appeared in national and international publications including Art in America, NY Arts, ArtUS, BOMB, Glass, and Art on Paper, and he has been a frequent contributor to The Plain Dealer since 1999. Since 2000, Tranberg has taught painting and writing at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He was awarded an Ohio Excellence in Journalism award in 2004 and received Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowships in 2002 and 2007. The exhibit opens with a wine and tapas reception at Arts Collinwood, Friday October 22 from 6-9pm.
